The lounge at Harth, featuring the A111 pendant light designed by Alvar Aalto in 1952. …Alvar Aalto has always been one of my favourite architects because I see him as the anti-Starchitect of his time. He believed buildings are meant to connect us to nature and to each other. Even after achieving international acclaim, he insisted: “Architecture is not merely national but clearly has local ties in that it is rooted in the earth.” Might seem obvious, but it was (and is) at odds with modernist architectural dialogue.
