Powder room at our Wellington project: The clients are avid art collectors and we centred our whole design around their ability to rotate favourite pieces throughout the main floor, whether paintings, photography, or sculpture. We reconfigured this powder room to add a recessed wall niche with hand-applied silver foil and backlighting. It’s a tricky detail but this view is so important because you look right towards this back wall from the front entry. When the door to the washroom is ajar, the art captures your attention splendidly. The LED art niche lighting can be dimmed very low, and controlled so it’s the only light on. (Bumping the wall out was also really important because we had to run a bunch of ductwork to the second floor, and it acted like a perfect chase.)
