OPEN + INTIMATE

We divided the long room into two separate-but-connected living spaces. Midcentury homes often define open spaces with changes in floor level, so we used this as another opportunity to make the great room a part of the original midcentury home. WIde, carpeted steps were designed for casual seating and easy traffic flow when entertaining.
Prior to renovation, the room was long and narrow with five steep and narrow steps down.
We also added a perimeter bulkhead with recessed dimmable lighting to reduce the cavernous feel of the high ceiling without obscuring it.
